Song of the Summer, Take One

It's April 1 (happy birthday to a certain Discordant) and here in New York, it finally feels like Spring. So it's a perfect time to begin speculating what song will fill the envied role of Song of the Summer.

My first nomination is from the Southern California band Cayucas. It's called "High School Lover" and it's a catchy piece of sugary-sweet confection, just right for summertime. Enjoy!

Song of the Summer?

The New York Times asks whether it's too soon to pick the song of the summer. It is, after all, February, and the temperature in Midtown Manhattan right now is a balmy 43 degrees. Still, the Times offers the new Sleigh Bells single "Comeback Kid" as a bona fide contender. I think it's a good tune -- a bit more melodic maybe than what we heard from Sleigh Bells their first time out -- but I'm not ready to crown it just yet. Ask me again in a few months.

Here's the video.
